Where to get ferrets
As we support ferret rescues we would obviously recommend that you adopt ferrets from one rather than buying them from a pet shop or the small ads. There are always lots of beautiful, loving ferrets in need of a good home.
Most rescues will let you spend some time with the ferrets before you adopt and help to find the ferrets that suit you, this is also a good opportunity to see how they behave in their home environment.
If you have never kept ferrets before you may find that kits are a bit full on, they can best be described as hyperactive, everything ends up in their mouths at some point and they don't realise how sharp their teeth are. Inexperienced owners may be better off with older ferrets that have been taught some manners.
Beware of buying ferrets from the guy down the pub or at fairs, some of these animals are not as healthy as the vendor would have you believe.
If you are getting kits then they need to be at least 8 - 10 weeks old and fully weaned off their mothers milk.
